Fishing

We have quinnat salmon, brown and rainbow trout in Lake Hawea.

  • You can borrow a rod from The Camp office and have a go at spin fishing. All you have to do is pay for your lures and get a licence.
  • In New Zealand you need a licence to fish the rivers and lakes and you can get a day pass or season pass from the office.
  • We can provide information on where to fish but if you want all the inside information you are best to talk with our Manager, Matto. He’s an expert.
  • If you would like a fishing guide contact Glen Dene Hunting & Fishing https://glendenehunting.com/fishing/
  • We can help you smoke your catch so please ask at the office if you need some help. Nothing better than fresh smoked fish.  Its delicious.

Day trips

The Camp is a great base.  It is an easy distance to do lots of day trips

  • Drive to Tarras for a coffee and boutique shop before heading out to lunch at a Bannockburn winery.
  • Take a drive to the West Coast.  It is only 1.5 hours away.  Stop off at the blue pools before getting a Whitebait pattie at Jacksons Bay.
  • Arrowtown is always a fun day.  Have a go at gold panning before visiting all the shops and fantastic eateries.
  • Queenstown is a must!  The views from the gondola are amazing and the luge is fun for all ages.  These plenty of shops and restaurants or go for a spin in a jet boat.
